Kathie,

Thanks for the clarification. It helped me understand I think. I know when
the idea of looking at another list serv was mentioned it felt very much
like a diversion for me. This was partly because I think the discussion is
an important one, and history shows (archives and xcma experience) it is
normally handled with a rising tension, collective silence, followed by nice
words and then we go on.

I think, as I took you pointing at, moving past the confrontational / non
confrontational binary is an important direction to take. A look at how
confrontational or polite discourse can be used in a variety of ways to both
legitimize and delegitimize.

Mary's Bandura quote comes to mind especially the part of changing the
environment. I guess with that in mind it might be interesting to think of
what changes in the environment, system, or activity would make it more
meaningful for those who tend to be excluded. Yet, that looks at power
pretty centered and as I also took you hinting at it can take various
forms - sometimes very subtle.

On another note what is the story on no capitals especially the (i). It
reminds me of Diane's poetry form or letting the flow of thought dictate the
writing. I guess I am curious of its significance.

Nate
