Agreeing on fluency/ writing
I like Kate agree, that building a relationship with the students can
really get them to do more than they themselves thought possible. I
too tutor im both English and Spanish and the feling non-native
students have is one of apprehension, but once they fall into a
realxed position because I won't criticize them they open up and
learn! Comfort creates room for writing!

I have a satudent who came in scared as can be: 55 year old male,
proficient in first language, didn't say a word for weeks; it was
patience and him having the realization that I cared for him as a
developing person, and time was no object. Three months later, I
can't stop him from expressing his thoughts, asking questions, and
writing (even if it still needs a Lot).
