Gee, Stephanie, I have not read Bauer in a loooooooong time. Who knows what
he said back at the height of the cold war. Activity theory didn't really
surface here until Jim Wertsch's edited volume in 1981. When I was Luria's
post-doc in 1962-63 I don't think I ever heard him mention the word activity
and I consider myself a novice at that game, always interested in learning
from people for whom it is second nature, and always intuitively focusing
on the subject's point of view. As CultPsych should make clear, my way of
trying to understand "mind in activity" and the way it was thought of by
Leontiev/Rubenshtein etc were very different and I feel I have still not
reconciled the different starting points (see Eva's note earlier today--
at least today here in so calif).
