Vera,JoBeth, LeAnn, and all anti-fossilists!

It was Vygotsky who wrote that he wanted to pursue Marx's method and
not rely on citations.

So its safe to say he would not want people treating him the way
many Soviet scholars treated Marx!

Could you-all give a few examples of people who fossilize Vygotsky so
we could have a better idea of what you have in mind as the wrong way
to proceed?

My own view is that we Americans are not much in danger of fossilizing
Vygotsky because we know his ideas so poorly and appropriate them
so partially and eclectically outside of their historical context. (I'll
speak for myself on this, but I think it is not my "shortcoming" alone).

When I read the work, say, of Wertsch or Rogoff or Wells or many many
articles to be found in the pages of Soviet Psychology or Journal of
Russian and East European Psychology, (Zinchenko's work comes immediately
to mind here) I see no danger at all of fossilizing.

How might we improve the dialogue(S) here on xmca from the perspective
of creative use of the past?
