Hmmm.  Not quite in the same sense as the "mind the gap" article was
bearing upon, for me.

This nytimes link, for me, is about the difficulty people have with
mathematical induction and extrapolating some sense of symbolic closed form
out of the recursion.  All the detail is within the compass of the
"rational", although, yes, its often so much more natural to call upon
(non-rational) intuition (e.g. knowing the answer but not knowing why).
The gap article, on the other hand, approached the exchange of the symbolic
more authentically, in my opinion/recollection.
