By my reading yes. After all, many examples of mediation in pre-literate
societies (remember the string tied around the finger or the Quipu
examples?) are in various texts.
For a brief summary see *Cultural Psychology *if you have it. If you do
not, go to amazon, google it,
search on primitive and read the entry on p. 113.
