Elizabeth Garrard Hall Professorship in Early Childhood Education

 

The University of Georgia Department of Elementary and Social Studies Education invites nominations and applications for the Elizabeth Garrard Hall Professorship in Early Childhood Education. The Elizabeth Garrard Hall Professor must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Professor at the University of Georgia. The candidate for this endowed professorship would be a scholar and leader in early childhood education focused on grades PreK-3. The candidate will possess a strong record of research, outstanding scholarly accomplishments, and a record of service in the field of early childhood education. A strong record of securing external grants and funding is also highly desirable. The Elizabeth Garrard Hall Professor will receive support from the endowment to engage in innovative teaching and scholarship and will be expected to provide mentoring for early-career faculty members and doctoral students.

 

The Department of Elementary and Social Studies Education seeks to promote social equity and to advocate for children and teachers through research, teaching, engagement, and outreach. The faculty members of the Department are composed of scholars who work with diverse theoretical frameworks and a variety of research methodologies; their areas of interest include the education of children from diverse backgrounds and in local and global contexts, home-school-university partnerships, integrated curricula, research with children and childhood studies, school reform, subject area specialties, policy studies, and teacher education (for more information about the Department, visit http://www.coe.uga.edu/esse).

 

The Early Childhood Education program at UGA has been ranked among the nation’s top 10 elementary education programs by U.S. News and World Report for more than a decade. The Elizabeth Garrard Hall Professor will be expected to advance and extend the program’s national and international visibility and reputation by producing high-quality and rigorous research and actively participating in the broad community of scholars in the field of education in general and early childhood education in particular.

 

One of the largest and most diverse institutions of its kind in the nation, the University of Georgia College of Education offers 16 undergraduate majors and more than 34 graduate programs leading to careers as educators, counselors, psychologists, administrators, researchers, and educational and health-related specialists. The College’s rigorous academic programs also offer opportunities for study and research with many nationally and internationally recognized faculty members who are pursuing innovative research, forging bold initiatives, and building community-based partnerships that develop realistic solutions to some of the most difficult challenges in education.

 

Applicants must include a curriculum vitae, a list of three references, a statement of interest and qualifications, including a summary of the applicant’s research agenda highlighting scholarship relevant to the position.
