This discussion is taking us back to the 1950's in a way that I believe may
be very productive in thinking
about Western interpretations of Vygotsky over time and how Basil Bernstein
is appropriated into the discussion. I will try to post some key pages from
Bereiter and Engelmann (1965), whose "vygotsian/
bernsteinian" ideas about intellectual consequences of the COPoverty led to
the famous DISTAR curriculum in the us, a precursor to the
education-as-drop-down menu manias of today.
Very relevant to your interesting paper, Andy. Perhaps provide some
contextual materials and post under papers for discussion?
