The Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professorship in Urban Education The College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is pleased to invite nominations and applications for the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professorship in Urban Education, established through the generosity of Mr. Irwin Belk. The appointment will begin on August 15, 2011. The Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor will join a dynamic, high achieving, collaborative, and growing College of Education. It is the College's goal to prepare professionals who will contribute to the positive development of persons, to the development of effective schools for all children and youth, and to the alleviation and prevention of many of today's educational problems and challenges, especially in urban schools. The College of Education strives for equity and to provide all students with a deep understanding of and respect for diversity Position: This endowed professorship offers an exciting opportunity for a senior scholar in urban education to serve in a leadership role for the Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction through doctoral level instruction and research on teaching and learning in urban settings. The holder of the professorship is expected to make a wide range of leadership contributions to the University, including mentoring, external grant development, and educational outreach. The Distinguished Professor will be assigned to the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K12 Education, the home of the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction. Salary, endowment, and start up costs are competitive. Qualifications: An earned doctorate in education, eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure, successful experience in doctoral level education and a program of funded research. Setting: UNC Charlotte, North Carolina's urban research university offers 25,000 culturally diverse students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
