"Cultural-historical activity theory, or CHAT, with its 
roots in Soviet psychology, and Marx and Engels, has emerged 
as a significant phenomenon in the last few decades. This 
video (part 1 of 2) introduces the notion of CHAT, locating 
it historically in the work of Vygotsky, Leont’ev and 
Engeström. It then develops the notion of activity system 
analysis based on Engeström’s work.
"In Part 2 of the video, activity theory is applied to the 
problem of behavior change and HIV and AIDs. The video 
focuses on sexual activity as the activity of the system, 
and illustrates how an activity system analysis, through an 
historical and current account of the activity, provides a 
way of understanding lack of behavior change in response to 
HIV and AIDS"
