Hi Eric,
These are fascinating questions. You might be interested in a book called
When Elephants Weep: The Emotional Lives of Animals by Masson & McCarthy.
It pre-dates Goodall's preface to Mark Beckoff's work by two years, but is
a really interesting read. We need to be careful not to impose the
Cartesian box on our thinking if we are to progress in this area.
