Shirley Walters, professor at the University of Western Cape, Cape Town,
South Africa, and Linzi Manicom (University of Toronto) are revitalizing the
issues that they covered in their well-regarded text, "Gender in Popular
Education: Methods for Empowerment" (ZED Books, 1996). This book, is still
being used quite widely, and their thinking has moved on in various areas.
The 1996 text is a critical reflectionon feminist adult education work
(broadly defined) in grassroots organizations, developmentprojects, formal
institutions, and community education projects in an international context,
including South Africa, India, United States, Canada, Malaysia, the
philippines and Australia.
They are hoping for abstracts (expressions of interest) by December 2008,
and if accepted, a chapter by June 2009 for their renewed text,Feminist
Popular Education: Building pedagogies of possibility.
Attached is the official announcement.
