Dear All,

Wanted to submit one more inquiry regarding interest in the following two
themes for possible AERA symposia:

> Second life, WoW, and Other Virtual Environments for education

> The role(s) of qualitative (multi-modal) research in the conduct of research
on learning and development

Therešs room for 1-2 more abstracts on either topic if youšre interested in
joining otherwise, Išll close this call and get working with those whošve
already expressed an interest...

Cheers,
Michael~

Subject: Re: [xmca] Call for Proposals and Reviewers
Dear All,
Was wondering if there was interest around the following two themes:
> Second life and Other Virtual Environments for education
> The role(s) of qualitative research in the conduct of research on learning and
development
As for the former, our local CHAT reading group is reviewing the attached
article in which Nardi et al examine World of Warcraft (WoW) from the
perspective of activity and community ties this is only one example of a
growing literature base of empirical work on multi-user virtual environments
(MUVES) and massive-multiplayer games (MMOGs)...
Mike mentioned that there might be some folks interested in the second theme
my interest would be in discussing work wešre doing on mathematical
manipulatives, mediation, and sense making in the PreK-3 classroom as part
of an NSF-funded project...
Just thought Išd throw out a couple things to see whošs interested Išd be
happy to lead/coordinate sessions around either one of these themes...
Thanks!
Michael~
