Date: Wed Jul 02 2008 - 12:54:43 PDT

Hello all

Below is a call for chapter proposals for a book on virtual learning
environments titled Cases on Collaboration in Virtual Learning Environments:
Processes and Interactions that I am editing and will be published by IGI
Global publishing. I think this book will be an exciting opportunity to
compile cases studies from differing fields on a variety of virtual learning
environments and potentially develop new understandings about these emerging
learning environments. Please consider submitting a proposal for a chapter.

Thank you.

            CALL FOR CASES

Submission Deadline: August 15, 2008

Cases on Collaboration in Virtual Learning Environments: Processes and
Interactions

A book edited by Dr. Donna Russell

Introduction
The book Cases on Collaboration in Virtual Learning Environments: Processes
and Interactions provides a unique opportunity for research to take the
shape of experience, implementation and application. The impact of
technology in a particular setting is described, analyzed and synthesized to
offer solutions for successful strategies and address organizational
challenges and experienced pitfalls of aspects of technology or their
specific function.

The publication of this collection will become a signature process for the
integrated analysis of highly complex virtual learning environments. By
publishing a collection of analyses from varied fields, myriad environments
and emerging technologies, the book will provide a systemic response to a
highly innovative and rapidly evolving field‹the development of virtual
learning environments for education and training. As such, it will afford
a forum for further discussions and new perspectives of these potentially
highly transformative learning environments, ultimately providing productive
concepts to educators and trainers hoping to challenge their students to
higher levels of learning to prepare them for the complex, technology-driven
world of the future

The Overall Objective of the Book

The overall objective of this book of case studies is the development of new
strands of analysis, resulting in productive insight into the types and
qualities of interactions in virtual learning environments. As emerging
technologies increase the potential for constructivist learning processes
and responses, it is critically important that educational researchers,
instructional designers, cognitive scientists and information scientists
become more aware of advances in these correlating fields. Additionally, it
is important that research methodologies and evaluative responses become
more robust, systemic and holistic. The use of case studies from multiple
fields identifying varied educational experiences to describe virtual
learning environments comprised of highly interactive components creates the
potential for a statement on the latent possibilities of virtual learning
environments.

The Target Audience

The audience will include educational practitioners, educational
researchers, information systems designers, business trainers, medical
trainers, military trainers, university professors, and cognitive
scientists. The benefit of the diverse literature included in the book will
be to encourage an expansive process of review and evaluation of these
virtual environments that can impact the design and development of these
rapidly evolving learning environments in the future.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Examples of 3D virtual learning environments for training in business
Assessing skill development in training in the medical field
Evaluating advanced learning processes in virtual learning environments
Using systems analysis to understand virtual learning environments
Pedagogical agents and their contribution to virtual learning.
The principles for the design of a virtual learning environments.
The ethics of virtual learning environments
The relationships between design and learning in virtual learning
environments.
Problem-Based Learning in virtual learning environment
Motivation in virtual learning environments
Responding to diverse learners in virtual learning environments
Understanding the influence of interactions on learning in virtual learning
environments
The influence of telepresence in virtual learning environments

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before August 15,
2008, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining the mission and
concerns of the proposed case. Authors of accepted proposals will be
notified by August 31, 2008 about the status of their proposals and sent
case organizational guidelines. Full cases are expected to be submitted by
November 30, 2008. Final accepted cases are due by February 15, 2009. All
submitted cases will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. This book
is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.),
publisher of the ³Information Science Reference² (formerly Idea Group
Reference) and ³Medical Information Science Reference² imprints. For
