Mike,
Certainly, the book is well written and the site is well organised. However, it looks like that the library is not that concerned about copyright issues!
Like so many other members of this list I have experienced difficulties while trying to translate perezhivanie into English. From what has been said so far, it is clear that 'experiencing' does not cover sufficiently the meaning of 'perezhivanie'. I prefer to translate it as 'affective recount of experience' because I wish to keep the meaning as close as possible within the boundaries of cultural-historical body of knowledge. I consider this translation consistent with Vygotsky's idea of the unity of affective and cognitive processes. It seems consistent with Lydia Bozhovich's interpretation of perezhivanie as an internal position as well. The role that Bozhovich gives to perezhivanie is simply recognition of the fact that the development begins with an affective reconsideration of the social situation.
You explained in similar light the meaning of the prefix "pere" in your earlier post. You wrote that: 'It indexes a process of getting through some experience, or reliving an experience, or re-building'. Your account is quite reasonable because it describes the process of perezhivanie and also gives insights into the developmental dimensions of perezhivanie.
An analogous discussion to ours has taken place among the translators of Stanislavsky's works. Stanislavsky considered perezhivanie as a main concept of his system. He used the term in a different sense. He referred to the actor's 'living the role', or experiencing being the other and feeling the emotions of this other as his/her own. Although the meaning of Stanislavsky's perezhivanie is in a way distant from Vygotsky's concept, the discussion around its translation illustrates how difficult it is to express the meaning of this old Slavonic word into English.
On the other hand, experience is often translated into Russian as perezhivanie. For instance, Maslow's term 'peak experiences' ('Toward a Psychology of Being') has been translated into Russian as 'pikovye perezhivania' (see ?????? ?.(1997) ?????????? ?????. ???. ? ????. ?.?. ?????????. M.: ????-???, ??????).
Clearly, there remains a need for the further clarification of the meaning of this concept.

This site is great and so is the book. But many need it in English.
How do you interpret the idea of perezhivanie, Yordanka? How does this idea
break down barriers between cognition and emotion? Does perezhivanie
develop?
(I think it must, but my batting average is not much better than Jackie
Robinson's!)
