Dear Cultural-Historical SIG Members,

We hope you are enjoying your summer and finding time for some
combination of relaxation, catching up, and maybe even some new
adventures. We are quickly approaching AERA's proposal
deadline and will soon begin the process of proposal review for our
2008 program.

This year's Annual Meeting theme provides an intellectual space for
scholarship focused on schools, neighborhoods, and communities. The
cultural-historical paradigm is well suited to research on such
social entities, and in particular, the relation between social
entities and individual learning. According to the AERA call for
proposals, examples of relevant research topics include, but are not
limited to: (1) higher education and community development, (2)
education and social service partnerships, (3) community-based
teacher education, (4) project-based learning in metropolitan
settings, (5) juvenile justice and opportunity to learn, (6) fiscal
policy and planning, and (7) educational role of the professions
(e.g., health, law, and engineering). All of these topics could
benefit from a cultural-historical approach.

We write to invite and encourage your submissions for our
Cultural-Historical SIG Program. Currently, session allocations are
based on the number of submissions each individual SIG receives. The
deadline for SIG proposals is August 2.

We also need your support in the proposal review process. Our past
reviewers have ensured the quality of our program and we need both
senior and junior scholars. Please consider signing up to review
proposals, as well as to chair or be a discussant for paper symposia.
Thank you in advance!

Please check the AERA's website for more information on the 2008
annual meeting and how to submit a proposal and/or volunteer:
http://www.aera.net/.

Thank you all for your participation and support! See you in New York
in March 2008!

All the best,

Keith Sawyer and Jennifer Vadeboncoeur
