Subject: Special Educator subpoenaed before Congress on Reading First
On April 20 at 9 am the House Education and Labor Committee will hold a
hearing on Reading First. Much controversy has swirled around the
implementation of this program and several Inspector General and GAO reports
have been issued raising questions.
Today, Chairman George Miller announced that he has subpoenaed Deborah
Simmons, a special education professor at Texas A and M University to
testify.
Other confirmed witnesses are:
Jack Higgins, Education Department Inspector General
Chris Doherty, former Reading First program director
Roland H. Good, University of Oregon Associate Professor
Edward Kame'enui,, National Center for Special Education Research
Commissioner and former special education professor at the University of
Oregon
This hearing will likely be viewable on the Committee's website.
