Katrina:
I appreciate the interest you take in this area. My respect for Vygotsky
started when I found a core of his study was in defectology. I am a
teacher of students receiving special education services in the United
States. It is unfortunate that the focus in the United States is defecit
based. This approach lead me to research different approaches to
educational psychology. I was satisfied when I found the work of Vygotsky.
I believe that Vygotsky viewed the study of defectology as he did the study
of human development, as an open ended system. Therefore, a person less
developed would be a snapshot of the continuum of human development (i.e.
the autistic stuck in a time loop that continually plays the early months
of a person's life).
Excited to see your paper!

Hi Katerina--
Yes, it seems as if it would be very helpful to have your article along
with
the two
Vygotsky chapters to enrich a discussion on defectology. I wonder what he
would
have thought of entitling a journal on this topic "Special Needs
Education."? Seems
a little counter to his views at first glance.
mike
PS-- Send along the article and we will get it posted asap
