Dear Bill--

While this is more public advocacy than research, you may want to look at
Jonathan Kozol's new book "The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of
Apartheid Schooling in America"
/103-2796155-3043810?s=books&v=glance&n=283155. He's recently spoken
tirelessly about the need to desegregate public schooling in the U.S.,
particularly to teachers.

This query seems to speak to the issue of social class and preparation for
later life. I do not know of any specific research on the issue. Can anyone

I do not know of such research unless the de-tracking studies fit the bill.
Let me forward this query to XMCA our discussion list.
