The International Conference of the Learning Sciences (ICLS) alternates
years between the CSCL conferences. Like CSCL, the ICLS conference is
sponsored by the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS),
which also sponsors the International Journal of Computer-Supported
Collaborative Learning (ijCSCL) and the Journal of the Learning Sciences
(JLS). ISLS is committed to broadening participation at its conferences to a
global community. Please consider submitting a paper in the next two months
and joining us at ICLS 2006 in Bloomington, Indiana, USA(site of the first
CSCL conference in 1995) next June .

Indiana University is hosting the Seventh International Conference for the
Learning Sciences June 27-July 1. For more details, please visit --

Note the November 1, 2005 deadline for submitting proposals for papers,
posters, symposia, and innovative sessions. That deadline will be here
quickly, so please begin your preparations to submit a proposal. Also,
please visit the conference web and consider signing up as a reviewer at
this time.
You can also help by forwarding the announcement below, along with words of
encouragement, to two or more colleagues who you feel would be positive
contributors in Learning Sciences but who are not now members
of the society. We think it is important to bring new contributors into the
community, and we are particularly interested in making this a more
international conference than it has been in the past. Think of folks
who would make good contributions under the 2006 conference theme "Making a
Difference."
Please remind potential participants of the various forms of support
available. The US National Science Foundation has provided funds for travel
and registration support for 20-25 fellowships to allow junior faculty to
participate in the conference and pre-conference workshops (application
deadline January 15, 2006; specific stipends TBA). The NSF is also providing
fellowships for 20-25 doctoral students to participate in the conference and
the doctoral consortium (deadline March 1, 2006, specifics TBA). Of the 40
to 50 awards available, approximately 10 to 15 are expected to be awarded to
non-US applicants. In addition, we ask potential international participants
to pursue travel awards from the research agencies in their countries as
appropriate.

interdisciplinary approach to the study of learning, cognition, and
development in real world contexts. All who are interested in the study of
learning in context and the design of learning environments are invited to
participate in ICLS 2006. Consistent with the 2006 theme

examines the scalability of learning environments and the impact on
