History in CHAT #1,345

On the topic of history in CHAT, could someone point me to the Engestrom
reference for history of an activity system? I'm in a quandary over how to
account for the history of a group of classroom learners who are together for a
relatively short period (either 6 or 12 weeks). I like Jay Lemke's work in this
area a lot, but in this instance, can't seem to make the practical leap.
