Phil,
Just to note that we are suffering here in Massachusetts from Unz-itis, a
condition caused by millionaire Ron Unz and his efforts to wipe bilingual
education from the face of the earth. If he succeeds in passing his
"English for the children" ballot initiative here in Massachusetts, which
it looks like he probably will, he has vowed to use the momentum to go
national with federal legislation.
Don't stay quiet for too long!

Thanks for the reference, Mike. Another one I'll spend weeks trying to
find...a friend from the States brought me Volosinov's Marxism and the
Philosophy of Language (Harvard) today, which will keep me quiet for a
while, along with re-reading Gordon's Dialogic Inquiry. I am becoming very
intrigued with the notion of thinking and speaking a second language and
hope that I might be able to spark some interest here on that topic in due
course.
Phil
