On the other hand, academic culture is not one that fosters unified stands.
They are extremely difficult to establish, and i can speak to this personally
from recent past/near future, where, even though there was/may be collective
action, there was/will be much dissent internally. Only majority rule has
made collective action possible so far, and there had to be a good degree of
political organization already in place for the vote to take place. The
organization (a faculty assembly) was developed for self-governance within an
institution, and thus the action was tightly bounded within that system.
There is nothing like that across the institutions from which people with
socio-cultural-historical perspectives come. If there is even a shared
object across the broad theoretical orientation, maybe a diffuse one, it is
perhaps simply to promote understanding.
