So it is Phil G.
I am presently concerning myslef with digital literacy, in preparing a bid
to a programme entitled "eLearning and European youth in a digital age".
Mumford critically described a form of digital illiteracy which is wchoed
in the Webster and Robbins book i have cited hereabouts.. It demonstrates
how cultural artifacts can but down the mediation process. It is also
illustrative of how some of thise 60's cybernetics/systems thinkers
(Mumford, Beer, Pask, Asbym Bateson..) were able to go beyond the
mechanistic.
Ashby's law rises yet again in its lemma- you can respond to complexity by
shutting some of the variety down or by increasing the system's diversity

PS a skater friend has been told that if he caught again in the space
that is otherwise only occupied by town drunks (in front of the Glanrafon
to jerk the memory of Phillip C) he will get a criminal record; criminal
damage.

to engage my enthusiasm. I just don't have one "
