Department of Language Education
The Indiana University School of Education seeks a highly capable, tenure
track faculty member who will contribute to the advancement of education
through research and development, innovative instruction, program
development, and service to the professional community. The Bloomington
campus of Indiana University is its flagship campus. As a national leader in
educational research, the IUB School of Education offers ample opportunities
for collaborative research and professional growth.
The teacher education program at Indiana University provides multiple,
differing opportunities and structures for faculty to work in the
preparation of new teachers. Faculty and graduate student inquiry in the
Department of Language Education addresses a broad range of research
including such themes as reading and language arts teacher preparation,
technology and literacy, curriculum and assessment, cultural literacy,
critical literacy, sociocultural perspectives on language, education for
democracy and diversity, and immigrant and language minority education.
Collaborative work with colleagues within the department and in school
settings, community organizations, and other departments across the
university is especially valued.
Position: Elementary Reading/Literacy Education
Rank: Assistant Professor
Beginning: August 1, 2001
Responsibilities: Candidates will be expected to teach reading and language
arts methods at the undergraduate level as well as exert leadership in
reading and language arts teacher education, with immediate responsibilities
to include the supervision of associate instructors in their teaching of
courses in literacy assessment. In addition, candidates will be expected to
offer instruction at the graduate level and have an active program of
research.
Qualifications: An earned doctorate with preference given to candidates with
a broad based preparation in literacy education. Candidates should show
evidence of an active research agenda and their experience in working with
teachers in public school settings and with diverse or special needs
populations. Work in the fields of curriculum and assessment and in
technology and literacy education should be clearly delineated.
