Subject: "Performance-Based" Standards for Teacher Preparation Programs
The following news will affect many future students who seek teacher
certification in the United States.
On May 11, 2000, the Executive Board of the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) ratified
"performance-based" standards for teacher preparation programs.
Beginning in the fall of 2001, all teacher education programs seeking
NCATE accreditation will be required to meet the standards. The
