Thanks for the note regarding Mary Daly. For me the issue is not
about segregated courses, but about the administration's ability to
"de-tenure" in messy situations. Certainly not a legitimate position for
the administration to take.
While I tend to believe that all segregation is inappropriate and
that we should be working, studying, and learning to live together, I also
recognize the importance of creating safe spaces for folks who have been
marginalized to gather for dialogue. It sounds like this has been her
intent for years. There are times when "learning to speak" takes priority
over - and in fact, in some sense, is prior to - sharing ideas, challenging
thoughts, and conversing with others. I will write a letter.
