In going through the books and papers on my desk, as
I struggle to make sense of cognition in context, I'm
reminded occasionally of the simplicity and optimism
I've left behind. This from the introduction to

Halpern, D. F. (1996). Thought and knowledge:
An introduction to critical thinking (3rd Edition).
Mahwah, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates.

I have lofty goals for every reader of this book. I want
you to change in substantial and meaningful ways so
that you think better after you have read this book and
worked through the problems in the accompanying
workbook. I want you to use the skills of critical thinking
in all sorts of settings and in ways that will benefit you
and others. (p. xii)

Now where did I put that workbook!
