I recently had an experience aiding in the re-publication of Mary Parker
Follett's The New State: Group organization - The solution of popular
government (1998).
My friend and colleague Matthew Shapiro of the Idaho Systems Institute -
after his own efforts to e-publish Follett on the web and in discussions
with me - prevailed on Benjamin Barber to spearhead the efforts to have this
work of hers republished. He (Barber) apparently knew editors at the
Pennsylvania State University Press that would be interested. He found one
other academic sponsors (Jane Mansbridge and Kevin Mattson) and now the book
is back in print.
I think it would be great if Xmca had the capacity for a similar effort. I
think that a published book is still in many ways preferable to web/html/pdf
publication for a couple of reasons. One is simply the veracity that a
formal effort would give the project. Two is the portability and longevity
of the artifact itself, and Three is simply that I like books. I would love
to have a copy of Leont'ev's great work.
