I didn't mean to imply that they took over the role of progress publishers,
but the scanning of Marx/Engels works were motivated by progress publishers
less than optimal functioning. The Marx/Engels writings were past
copyright so they were fair game for scanning and putting online. The
motivation being that with the rise of the free market and the efficiencies
that follow the diversity of their work would not be republished.
