On interdisciplinarity:
Julie Klein, Crossing Boundaries: Knowledge, Disciplinarities, and
Interdisiplinarities, U. of Virginia Press, 1996. While not grounded in an
AT perspective, this discussion of moving across/breaking down the often
artificial boundaries in academia relates to the idea of negotiation
between competing activity systems best articulated in not only David's
1997 Written Communication piece but in Yrjo's chapter, "The Tensions of
Judging: Handling Cases of Driving Under the Influene of Alcohol in Finland
and California," in Engstrom and Middleton, Cognition and Communication at
Work (Cambridge UP, 1999).
