dear colleagues - would someone be able to give me a bit of advice on this
one. i have drawn up a book proposal for a book (working title 'language
and human activity') discussing in detail the philosophical, theoretical,
methodological and empirical foundations and development of a theory of
language within the vygotskian tradition and providing a critique, from
this position, of contemporary linguistic theory. so i am starting with the
marxist philosophical and scientific roots of vygotsy's approach to
language, with discussions of the relevance of ilyenkov, mikhailov and
others to language theory, and going on to look at what is specifically
novel and productive about vygotsky's contribution specifically to language
theory (rather than psychology as such). i will attempt to develop on this
basis an approach to grammatical phenomena, as well as the semantic issues
(sense, word meaning and concept) which are generally dealt with in this
framework and provide a critique of contemporary grammatical theory
(chomsky, halliday, cognitive linguistics) somewhere along the way. could
anybody advise me on a publisher who might be interested in such a
proposal?? i would be grateful for any suggestions!
very best wishes
peter
