Thanks Nate,

Perhaps this is what's happening in my daughter's class. I'm not quite sure
why, but:
I take the time to sit with her when she does her homework (which is
apparently unusual). Anyway, when her teacher found out that I'd been
helping her, by which I mean showing her particular spellings, punctuation
conventions, etc, I was told that I shouldn't do this otherwise the teacher
wouldn't know how fast she was advancing (!!???).

The need for surveillance seems to outweigh the need for engaged learning.
Is this what's happening? I see several paradoxes in such restrictions
being placed on parents.

dear diary,

am i damaging my child by involving myself in her education?
