We're looking for one senior research officer and one research assistant to
assist us on a Language Fund Project which looks into the implementation
process of the NET(Native English Teachers) scheme in secondary and primary
schools in Hong Kong. The project will last for 18 months (Sept 1998 - Feb
1999) and will consist of 2 components:
(1) Assessment of student performance in English over a period of 3 school
terms;
(2) In-depth ethnograhic and classroom interaction studies in seven
selected schools.
For the senior research officer position, we're looking for someone with a
phd or a master's degree in a related area (e.g., education, school
ethnography, TESL/TEFL, or Language Assessment). The candidate should
preferably have experience in doing school field work and have a background
in qualitative/ethnographic methodologies. Additional knowledge and skills
in statistical and language assessment would be a strong asset.
For the research assistant position, we're looking for someone with a
bachelor or master's degree in education/TESL/TEFL or school
ethnogrpahy/anthropology or a related area in social sciences.
Both candidates should be fully bilingual in English and Cantonese/Chinese
and should have good interpersonal skills.
Remuneration: Senior Research Officer: approximately US$3,205 per month
(HK$25,000 per month);+medical benefits.
Research Assistant: approximately US$1,800 per month (HK$14,000 per month)
