Hello everybody--

I'm shocked. I knew Vasiliy Vasil'evish Davydov. He was a great psychologist
and a very interesting person. It is a great lost!

Last week, John St.Julien and I debated connectionism and name of Vasiliy
Davydov was repeated many-many times. One of important things that I
learned from Vasiliy Vasil'evish was dialectics -- the notion of the initial
contradiction that generates focus of the activity. John and I discussed
whether a connectionsim approach with its focus on pattern recognition and
pattern building is complementary to Davydov's focus on contradiction that
emphasized the tension and the importance in a sociocultural activity. I
remember Davydov saying that in order to teach a child math the teacher
should help the child cross the boundary between math and non-math back and
forward.
