Position: Senior Research Assistant
(Appointment for 22 months; starting
date: ASAP)
Project: English Language Learning of Local
and Immigrant Primary School Children in
Hong Kong: Identifying Predictive
Factors (A research project supported by
the Language Fund, Standing Committee on
Language Education and Research, Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region
Government)
Duties: To organize, coordinate, and conduct
large-scale longitudinal classroom-based
research; oversee data collection and
analysis; coordinate part-time research
assistants on the project; liaise with
school principals, teachers, students,
and parents.
Requirements: A good honors degree in TESOL/
Education/ Applied Linguistics/ Social
Science with 3 years' research
experience, or a Master's degree with a
year's relevant experience, or a PhD
degree. A good command of English and
Chinese (spoken Cantonese and written
Chinese), high level of computer
literacy, transcribing skills, and
excellent interpersonal and
organizational skills. Knowledge of
both ethnographic and statistical
research methods, and holder of Cert.
Ed./Dip. Ed. preferred. There is a good
possibility for the successful
candidate, if interested, to pursue a
higher research degree on a topic
related to this project at the City
University of Hong Kong.
Remuneration: HK$18,010/month (in the first
year), HK$18, 915/month (in the second
year) (US$1 = HK$7.75) + medical
benefits.
