I am a graduate student of English Composition Studies at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. A former high school English teacher from 1991-1993 and
Physical Science and Chemistry teacher from 1993-1994 and a sign-language
interpreter, I bring both a concern with education and an awareness of the
consequences for participants of being or feeling excluded from
communicative communities to my research. I'm currently most focused on
combining ethnographic and ethnomethodological (conversation analytic)
perspectives to understand how identities are constructed and
co-constructed by participants in ongoing interaction and then how those
identities show up in writing. Specifically, I'm looking at classroom
environments for the sites of those instantaneous identity
negotiations/struggles.
