New Position: Full Professor in Learning and Cognition in Education
Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education
The College of Education at Michigan State University seeks candidates for
an academic year tenure system position at the rank of Full Professor in
the area of learning and cognition in education. We are looking for an
outstanding scholar to complement thenationally known faculty in
educational psychology and teacher education. Individuals with interests
that bridge other, learning-related areas such as human development,
socio-cultural processes, educational policy, technology, or classroom
learning environments are encouraged to apply.
The position will be in the Department of Counseling, Educational
Psychology and Special Education. Affiliations with research centers in the
college are also possible. The appointment will begin in Fall, 1998.
Salary will depend upon the applicant's experience and qualifications.
Additional resources will accompany this full professorship to support and
enhance the individual's intellectual agenda.
Responsibilities: The person is expected to provide leadership in the
research, teaching, and outreach missions of the college nationally and
regionally, including: (1) conducting and publishing research on issues
related to student learning and cognition; (2) contributing to efforts in
the college to obtain external funding for research programs; (3) working
collaboratively with faculty and doctoral students in a top rated
educational psychology program; and (4) connecting with several
federally-funded initiatives on reform minded teaching and learning.
Qualifications: (1) earned doctorate in learning or closely related
fields; (2) evidence of high quality scholarship; (3) demonstrated
excellence in teaching and in the mentoring of graduate students; (4)
ability to effectively recruit graduate students; (5) ability to work
collaboratively with college faculty; and (6) ability to contribute to
public service and outreach efforts in the area of student
learning-oriented educational reform.
