Re ulric's question, it seems to me that one should be clear that Vygotsky
himself firmly saw his work within the marxist 'paradigm' (not a happy term
it seems to me) and that, indeed, his key ideas are a creative development
of (but still within) the marxist philosophical and methodological
foundations which he accepted, although there is controversy on this issue
(see particularly the critique of followers of S L Rubinstein who prefer to
put Vygotsky with Bakhtin).
