The question of physical space and activity has troubled me a lot. I am an
occupational physician and I am doing my research within the framework of CHAT
about the construction of work-related well-being of the workers in an
institutionalized setting for the elderly; we call them 'old people's homes'
here in Finland.
Already from the ethnographic phase of my research the huge importance of the
architechture and features of the physical space in the work activity struck me.
A year ago I was responsible for preparing a seminar in our graduate school
about the 'Analysis of space' for which I went through this literature: Fuhrer
1993, Jordan & Henderson 1994, Giddens 1984, Strassoldo 1993, Er{saari 1995,
Foucault 1980(1975).
