I know Witte interesting work on writing, which I like very much.
Probably not quite right for the interests/needs of this group,
who encounter more focus on writing and literacy across the
curriculum in different context.

I know of work on portfolio assessment in art, writing, science;
but each of these is rather specialized. Anything that looks at
more general issues of alternative vs traditional assessment,
with examples from these various literatures? a review article?
(ERIC is down, so I can't offer specific candidates for your
comments)

I know the earlier work of Linda Flowers, but not specifically
on linking classrooms and communities. I mainly know this sort
of work in the contexts of community ethnographies by students,
and after-school centers with links to school curricula. Flowers'
cites appreciated.

and all other advice on sources for the topics originally posted.
