thanks for the warning about Lexis-nexis.

I -- apparently like MANY folks around the country -- called the 1-800
immediately. BUT, for what it's worth: I was told that the social security
numbers were already removed before the service went on line and that
"mother's maiden name" had never been and was not now a part of P-Trax. My
understanding is that your SS# can be used to find your file, but your more
public info (like address) cannot be used to obtain your SS#.

Apparently the "service," offered to Lexis Nexis by TransWestern Credit
Union, includes two previous addresses and birth date, however.

I still took my name off and was told I could remove the names of my family
members by providing their SS#s.

One additional thought: Does everyone know that there is now a web browser
through Yahoo that compiles all phone books around the country? You can type
anyone's name in and get their phone number and address in milliseconds
(especially if they are a Judy Diamondstone or Jay Lemke rather than a John
Smith). Sorry -- I don't remember the address, but we found it by doing a
net search and typing in keywords like "telephone books" or such.
