critical issues?

Dear Colleagues,

I am in the process of identifying a set of key issues in
contemporary educational theory and practice for discussions with
a group of teachers (across all teaching disciplines) in a
Master's degree program in secondary education here in New York.

I would very much appreciate your judgments regarding:

1. What are the most critical issues of which teachers should be
aware?

2. Where in the recent literature are the best discussions or
review articles or chapters (less-than-book-length) that could
serve as entry-points to discussion of these issues?

I will be happy to share the results of your input with the list,
and in time, also the responses of the teachers. I hope of course
to offer them a range of choices and encourage them to add to the
list, specialize in certain issues, etc. I assume that many of
the issues to be identified will be matters of some controversy
as well as of considerable importance. I am also hoping the
offerings will introduce new and possibly disturbing
perspectives.

You can send suggestions either to the list or to me directly at
JLLBC who-is-at CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU

Many thanks for any help you can offer. JAY.
