So many thanks to Phil Agre for revisiting David Russell's work
on genre theory. I am posting this as a placeholder, until I can
think more about his message. I know I will find David's work useful
in my graduate seminar, which next spring will address activity theory
more directly than this spring's seminar did, and it will be
of increasing importance in my project working with teachers on
improving pedagogies for expository writing. I am sorry not to
hear from David more on xmca (David? - hello?) It is much easier
for me to focus on local events & their artifacts than to
push my focus outward to other social locations. It's a way of
thinking/looking/planning that needs to be practiced.
Is Paul Prior still on this list? - he does related work.
