A while ago, I posted an anecdote about "practicing respect" in
Japan. According to the anecdote, Japanese culture, which seems
so formal to us, takes for granted, as its ground, a meta-stance
towards role relationships. How would you compare the individual's
meta-stance-taking in Japanese and in European-Amer.culture,
given the difference in cultural framing? What are the implications/
connotations of/ strategies for being a player (taking a light
touch) in Japan vs. the U.S. vs. the Middle East, vs. etc....
