Thanks Jay :-) well, yes, (cheek is a part of your face :-) )... anyway,
you must have heard of the cultural stereotype that Chinese are very
conscious of "face" issues... just by listening to the public discourses
between the Chinese government and the British Hong Kong government :-)
I was thinking that we tend to look at issues at the INDIVIDUAL moral level,
but most of the time, I find that it's the individual's social position
which imposes a lot of constraints on whatever self-critical stances we
can take... and as you mentioned... how our stances are publicly
interpretable to others... well... have to go back to my work... write
