Bakhtin, _The Dialogic Imagination_, also _Dostoevsky's Poetics_
are relevant sources. For Roland Barthes, same basic idea, see
_S/Z_ (yes, it's a weird title, part phonological alternation,
part generalized semiotic contrast, part frame-putter-at-risker).
The basic idea is not too original to anyone; folk-wisdom says
the fish doesn't know from water. JAY.
