Psychology Association of Alberta (PAA)
The PAA is a major sponsor of the convention, contributing funds, publicity,
and encouragement to PAA membership to attend the convention. Invaluable
assistance has also been given to Dr. Gail Berkove, Chair Banff ICP
Continuing Education Workshops. Drs. Lorraine Breault, Kathy Horne and Horst
Mueller, of the PAA Council, have joined the Banff ICP Convention Organizing
Committee. A measure of PAA's support is that PAA has down-sized their
annual May convention so that PAA members can conveniently attend the Banff
ICP convention. PAA members can pay convention fees at the ICP members rate.
PAA extends a hearty welcome to ICP delegates. Likewise to PAA members from
ICP.
Other Associations Providing Assistance
The American Psychology Association; the Alberta Guidance Council; the
Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association; the Canadian Psychology
Association. APA, AGC, CGCA & CPA members can pay convention fees at the ICP
members rate.
Budget, and a Plea
The convention fee is as good as it gets because the Budget Committee has
prepared a `bare bones budget.' The Banff ICP Convention Services will be
virtually cost free because of sponsorships of money/and or personnel by the
Faculty of Education, and the Department of Educational Psychology, U. of
Alberta; the Faculty of Education, and the Centre for Gifted Education, U. of
Calgary. The Bank of Montreal and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce are
sponsoring Visa, Mastercard, and banking services. A plea: please limit the
number of phone calls/faxes the Banff ICP Convention Services will have to
send to you. If possible, please e-mail proposals or any other
correspondence.
Invited Guests
Dialogues between educators of psychologists and school- and clinic-based
employers of psychologists will be a vital component of the convention.
Administrators and policy formulators from representative institutions are
invited to make presentations.
Students
Graduate students are directly involved in all aspects of the organization of
this convention. We can also look forward to excellent presentations by
masters and doctoral students.
Accommodation at The Banff Centre
If possible, please share a room with another delegate. The positive reasons
for this request are that sharing a room reduces accommodation cost to each
delegate, and, by keeping the majority of delegates on the Banff Centre
grounds, the social and communication aspects of the convention are simpler
to coordinate. The negative reason is that for each delegate staying
elsewhere, the convention organizers must pay a Banff Centre user fee.
Please make your own arrangements for room sharing. Todate, ICP has been
allocated only 200 rooms; which means, on a shared basis, there is
accommodation in the Banff Centre for only 400 delegates. Thus,
accommodation at the Banff Centre is on a first-pay-first-served basis.
Accommodation at Other than the Banff Centre
Delegates unable to get into the Banff Centre, or those preferring more
luxurious accommodation, please contact the Banff Lake Louise Tourist Bureau.
Ph: (403)762-3777; or Fax (403) 762-8584; or write, P.O.Box 1298, Banff,
Alberta, Canada, T0L0C0. Book your own accommodation. Walking time from
centre of Banff to the Banff Centre is 10 minutes. Accommodation at other
facilities is more expensive than at the Banff Centre-remember July is the
peak of the summer tourist season in one of the world's premier tourist
spots.
General Travel Information
The town of Banff is 130 Km (80 Mi) West of Calgary. There is a regular
shuttle bus from the Calgary International Airport to Banff, fare $30.
Departure times from Calgary: 12:30pm, 3:00pm, and 6:00pm. Departure times
from Banff: 8:30am, 12:30pm, 4:00pm, and 7:30pm. If three delegates rent a
car at the Calgary Airport and drop it off in Banff (or vice versa) the cost
is less than three individual bus fares. Delegates arriving in Calgary
Airport on July 23rd, 24th or 25th (up to 3:00pm), will be met by a member of
the Hospitality Committee. If your flight schedule does not permit
sufficient time to make the shuttle bus, and you do not wish to rent a car to
go to Banff, there is a hotel in Calgary Airport. All manner of Alberta
tourist information-maps, accommodations, etc.-can be obtained from Alberta
Tourism. Ph: 1-800-661-8888; or write Alberta Tourism, Box, 2500, Edmonton
Alberta, Canada, T5J4L6. If you have any additional concerns about travel in
Alberta, contact Dr. Sharon Robertson, Local Arrangements Chair, Dept. of
Educational Psychology, U. of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, T2N1N4. Ph:

Climate, Clothing, Stuff
The weather in Banff in July is usually sunny, with a daytime high of 25-28C
(75-80F), and a nighttime low of 20-23C (60-70F). Clothing is tourist
casual. Bring sunscreen if you burn easily. If you are planning on hiking
in the bush, mosquito repellent is necessary. A camera is a must. In
addition to a wide range of exercise and recreations facilities, The Banff
Centre usually has an opera, symphony, play or art exhibition in July.
