Just another quick tidbit--I attended public school in Virginia,
and the word "indivisible" was not a part of our pledge. I assume
this was the case throughout the South. I always assumed that the
pledge was developed after the civil war as a way to insure the
loyalty of children to the Washington government rather than to any
potential revitalization of the confederacy.
