My name is Rob MacLeod and I am currently a visiting grad student at the
University of California San Diego as a Fulbright scholar. I am a Canadian
and am doing my Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of British Columbia.
My interest is in communication and culture, especially the effects of
computer mediated communication. I hate to admit it, now that he's trendy
again, but I guess my primary inspiration is McLuhan's work. However, I
remain anthropologically rooted. There was a recent thesis in Canada that
maintained there is a uniquely Canadian form of Critical Theory focussed on
technology and communication that arises out of our cultural experience
of proximity to the USA and I guess I come out of that context.
